Coconut Grove Villa
The owners loved the neighborhood and the location; a site filled with an abundance of lush vegetation characteristic of Coconut Grove properties, but they did not love the house. Keeping only the foundations and most of the outer shell, the architects introduced a radical new plan featuring a central columned loggia as the focal point for the home. This, and the major renovation to the interior and exterior structure combined to achieve a style reminiscent of an old Italian country villa. Tall wood windows, classical columns, warm wood detailing, and marble flooring give an authenticity to the loggia and the home throughout. The plan was developed to enhance circulation for entertainment, and to encourage a strong sense of connectivity between the indoors and outdoors - both physically and visually. The end result is a home rooted in tropical vernacular tradition, along with a sense of classical timelessness and history.
