Classical Coconut Grove

The owner's wish was to design their dream home in a blend of two styles; embracing elements reminiscent of some of the original tropical homes of Coconut Grove, and the charming country homes of the South of France. The architect worked closely with the owners and interior designer to create a seven thousand square foot home which referred to elements from these historic examples, while also creating classical proportions and detailing to achieve a fresh, but relevant aesthetic. The exterior detailing reflects the architect's use of materials common to these styles and integrates the use of native keystone, reclaimed antique heart-pine timbers for beams and lintels over entrances, mahogany shutters, and paneled mahogany carriage doors. The richness of these natural materials is enhanced by the natural flora and fauna of the site. The detailing of the home - inside and out, expresses a sense of timelessness, as though it’s been there forever.
